Scenic Acres Astronomy Night - Spring 2023
We organized a second astronomy night in Scenic Acres after the success of our first event! This time, we had around 80 people in attendance with the help of 3 volunteers from the Calgary Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (special shout-out to Doug, David, and Judy). The moon was the prime target for the night, but we also caught views of Mars, Venus, and some other objects.
Bottle Rocket Workshop
We visited the Dalhousie Community Association to build bottle rockets with a group of 40 kids between the ages of 5 and 10. After helping the kids build their own rockets, we filled them up with soapy water "rocket fuel" and went outside to launch them. The kids organized some very enthusiastic countdowns!
Scenic Acres Astronomy Night - Fall 2022
Our astronomy night for the residents of Scenic Acres on November 19, 2022 was an incredible success! We coordinated with the Scenic Acres Community Association to get the event set-up, but none of it would have been possible without the efforts of dedicated volunteers from the Calgary Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (special shout-out to Eric, Chris, George, David, Max, Khalid, Doug, Andrew, and Roland!).
The event took place in a well-trafficed roundabout, and we had around 150 people of all ages visit throughout the night. Views of Saturn and Jupiter were particular crowd-pleasers, but attendees also had the chance to see other objects like star clusters and the Ring Nebula. Khalid even managed to get his telescope pointed at Neptune!
Stay tuned for more events like this in the future!
